Georgetown Men Win Paul Short Cross Country Invitational

Bethlehem, Pa. ? The 14th-ranked Georgetown University men?s cross country team won the 2003 Paul Short Invitational, held Saturday, October 4, at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. The Hoyas scored 31 points to claim first place out of 33 schools participating. GU placed all five point scorers among the top 11 runners, led by junior Rod Koborsi (Houston, Tex./Jersey Village) second-place finish.

Princeton picked up second place in the men?s race with 81 points, with James Madison in third place with 123. Pennsylvania took fourth place with 148 points, and Columbia was fifth with 162.

Koborsi clocked 24:17.03 to earn runner-up honors in the 8K race that featured 233 participants. Steve Sundell of Columbia won the race in 24:08.44. Sophomore Chris Lukezic (Auburn, Wash./Auburn) took third place with a mark of 24:22.20, and junior Chris Esselborn (The Woodlands, Tex./Woodlands) and sophomore Fleet Hower (Marion, Va./Marion) ran seven-eight with times of 24:31.63 and 24:36.64, respectively. Freshman Matt Debole (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) crossed the finish line in 11th place in 24:44.12.
