Georgetown Women Win Paul Short Cross Country Invitational

Bethlehem, Pa. ? The Georgetown University women?s cross country team, ranked 10th in the nation, won the 2003 Paul Short Invitational, held Saturday, October 4, at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.  The Hoyas bested a field of 32 schools with 28 points to take home the team title.  Senior Treniere Clement (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Monroe Falls) was the top GU finisher.  Clement earned runner up honors with a 20:39.45 mark on the 6K course.

West Virginia posted a second-place finish with 59 points, with Tennessee in third place with 80 points.  James Madison wrapped up fourth place with 193 points, followed by Villanova in the fifth spot with 230. 

West Virginia?s Megan Metcalfe was the winner of the women?s race in 20:38.12, followed by Clement.  Tara Struyk, also from West Virginia, took fourth place in 20:44.70.  Georgetown then took fourth, fifth and sixth place, with 224 runners participating.  Junior Nicole Lee (Palos Verdes, Calif./Peninsula) picked up fourth place in 20:48.83, followed by freshman Elizabeth Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./The Academy of Holy Names) in fifth with a time of 20:53.39.  Senior Amanda Pape (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) garnered sixth place in 21:03.61.  Senior Colleen Kelly (Maple Glen, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) rounded out the GU point scorers with an 11th-place showing.  Kelly clocked 21:19.79 on the course.
