CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ? The Georgetown track and field program competed at the Carolina Fast Times Meet on April 9 at the University of North Carolina, where they received terrific performances in the men?s and women?s 800m, and strong efforts across the board in other events.
Senior Jesse O?Connell (Westminster, Md./Westminster) ran just off his personal-record time of 1:47.50 in the men?s 800m, finishing in 1:47.76 to win the event and easily meet NCAA Regional Qualifying standards. O?Connell?s time is the 11th fastest in Georgetown history.
After a great performance at indoor nationals, sophomore Chris Lukezic (Auburn, Wash./Auburn) opened his outdoor season with an impressive 1:48.88 second-place performance in the 800m behind O?Connell. Senior Ezra Richards (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Science Skills Center) placed fourth in 1:50.95, and senior Ali Najjar (Temple Hills, Md./Northwestern), who redshirted the indoor season, timed 1:51.18 for fifth. Junior Nat Glackin (Red Bank, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) placed sixth in the 23-runner field with a time of 1:53.12.
Georgetown also posted very impressive results in the 800m on the women?s side, as senior All-American Treniere Clement (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Monroe Falls) broke the tape in 2:06.07. The mark betters Clement?s previous personal-best of 2:06.86, and stands at No. 12 on the Georgetown all-time record list.
The Hoyas also claimed the third through seventh spots in the women?s 800m, as senior Maura McCusker (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) ran 2:09.32 for third place, junior Kelley Otstott (Fairfax Station, Va./Thomas Jefferson) ran 2:10.41 for fourth, sophomore Sabine Knothe (Dortmund, Germany/ Mallinckrodt Gymnasium) ran 2:10.84 for fifth, freshman Nana Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) ran 2:12.16 for sixth and freshman Jayne Penn (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) ran 2:14.81 for seventh.
Senior Amanda Pape (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) won the 3000m with a time of 9:51.15, and also led the Hoyas in the 1500m with a third-place time of 4:32.67. Sophomore Kim Malcolm (West Chester, Penn./Villa Maria Academy) trailed Pape in both events, placing fourth in the 3000m with a time of 10:26.84, and seventh in the 1500m with a time of 4:41.13. Senior Rose Wetzel (Seattle, Wash./Blanchet) claimed fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:34.04.
The Hoyas also fared well in the sprints, where senior Monica Hargrove (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) placed second in the 400m (54.24) and third in the 200m (24.55). On the men?s side, Chris Bonner (Weston, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) won the 400m with a time of 47.68.
Georgetown claimed the top five spots in the men?s 1500m, as junior Tommy Manning (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit) cruised to victory in 3:49.76, and freshman Matt Debole (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) ran 3:50.14, senior Dan Tebbano (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) ran 3:50.76, freshman Brian Dalpiaz (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) ran 3:52.77 and sophomore Fleet Hower (Marion, Va./Marion) ran 3:53.30 to finish second through fifth, respectively.
Senior Teddy Presley (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) and junior Leilani Greene (Los Osos, Calif./Morro Bay) led the Hoyas in the field events, where Presley placed second in the in the triple jump (13.64) and third in the long jump (6.80), and Greene placed sixth in the pole vault (3.60m).
