WASHINGTON, DC ? Georgetown University Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, Ron Helmer, has announced that Hoya track standout Monica Hargrove will join the GU coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach. Hargrove will focus on the men and women?s sprint events.
Hargrove, a three-time All-American, was a key component of the Georgetown women?s track & field team from 2001 until graduation in 2004. She earned All-America accolades as a member of the Hoyas? distance medley relay team in 2002, 2003 and 2004. In addition, Hargrove was the 2003 BIG EAST Indoor 500m Champion and a member of the winning 2002 BIG EAST Outdoor 4 x 400m Relay squad.
Hargrove ran the second leg on the GU record-setting DMR team (11:07.27) in 2004 and was part of the Hoyas? third-place DMR squad at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships. She earned the James M. Gallagher Memorial Award for Outstanding Track & Field Competitor in 2003. An excellent student, Hargrove earned Dean?s List honors in 2004.
Hargrove graduated from the Hilltop in May of 2004 with a degree in Psychology. She is employed full-time as a Behavioral Technician at the Devereaux Center for Emotionally Disturbed Children. Hargrove is originally from New Haven, Conn.
