WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The 16th-ranked Georgetown University women?s cross country team finished second at the Great Meadows Invitational, held Saturday, Sept. 11 at The Plains, Va. The Hoya women scored 38 points to take second place out of three participating schools, led by the third-place finish of freshman Maggie Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont). The men?s team also finished second, placing four runners in the top 10. They tallied a total of 42 points to claim second out of five schools, led by senior Chris Esselborn?s (The Woodlands, Texas/Woodlands) sixth-place finish.
Duke University?s men and women teams claimed first place at the invitational, scoring 27 and 20 points, respectively. James Madison finished in the third spot for women?s with 80 points, while American, Yale and JMU rounded out third through fifth place in the men?s race, respectively.
In the women?s race, Infeld clocked 18:35.51 to finish in third place in the 5k run that included 22 participants. Ali Henderson of Duke won the race in 18:05.48. Georgetown freshman Melissa Gerlli (Cupertino, Calif./Presentation) took fifth place with a time of 18:48.54, and juniors Erin Henry (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) and Sabine Knothe (Dortmund, Germany/Mallinckrodt Gymnasium) finished ninth and tenth with times of 19:23.40 and 19:35.93, respectively.
For the men, Esselborn ran a time of 20:24.57 to claim sixth-place that featured 53 runners. Top finisher Nick Schnieder of Duke won the race with a time 19:49.05. Hoya sophomore Brian Dalpiaz (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) finished two seconds behind Esselborn with a time of 20:26.48 for seventh-place, while freshman Daniel Nunn (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo) and senior Tommy Manning (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit) finished ninth and tenth with times of 20:37.21 and 20:45.23, respectively.
