Track and Field Completes Final Day of Virginia Tech Invitational

WASHINGTON, D.C.?The Georgetown University track and field team completed the final day of the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday, January 15. The team turned in several outstanding performances at the meet.

In the women?s events, the team was led by the first place finish of the 4x800 meter relay team who finished first in 9:06.84. Individually, Nicole Lee (Palos Verdes, Calif./Peninsula) turned in the top performances of the day, finishing fourth in the 3000 meter run (9:37.40) and sixth in the one mile run (5:01.79) where she set a personal best for the season. Lee was followed closely by Maggie Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) in the 3000 meter run, who finished sixth in 9:45.28. Colleen Kelly (Maple Glen, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) ran to ninth place in the 800 meter run (2:15.27), and Nicole Torpey (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa) finished 16th in the 200 meter dash (25.27). Ashley Mondie (Washington, D.C./Milton Hershey (Pa.) jumped to a 12 place tie in the long jump (5:49m) and Jayne Penn (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) finished 19th in the 400 meter dash (59.08).

In the men?s events, the top finisher was Tommy Manning (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit) who finished in a close second in the one mile run (4:11.80). Manning was followed by three teammates all within the top ten as Nat Glackin Red Bank/ N.J./Christian Brothers Academy placed fourth (4:19.91), Charlie Millioen (Blue Point, N.Y./St. Anthony's) came in sixth (4:22.51), and Tim Erickson (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) placed eighth (4:23.38). In the 800 meter run, Stanley Lagrenade (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack) finished third (1:54.15), followed by Neil Grosscup (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) in sixth (1:54.80), and Michael Billington (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby) in eighth (1:56.94). The Hoyas placed a solid fifth and sixth in the 3000 meter run, with Brian Dalpiaz (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) in fifth (8:21.14) and Chris Esselborn (The Woodlands, Tex./Woodlands) in sixth (8:27.01).

Georgetown track and field will next be competing in the Indoor Terrapin Invitational held at the The Prince George?s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Maryland on January 22.
