Indoor Track and Field Wrap Up Penn State Invitational

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University wrapped up an impressive showing at the Penn State Invitational on January 28-29. Several Hoyas turned in ECAC/IC4A-qualifying performances at the meet.

The men's team was led by an outstanding first-place finish in the 500-meter dash by junior Chris Bonner (Weston, Mass./Xaverian Brothers).  Bonner ran 1:02.20 to win the race, qualify for IC4As and break the old PSU record by three tenths of a second.  He just missed the facility record by three hundredths of a second, but did move into seccond place on Georgetown's All-Time Top Performers' list, behind only Patrick Mann.

Senior Tommy Manning (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit) also turned in an impressive performance in the 1000-meter run where he claimed victory with an IC4A-qualifying time of 2:22.54. Manning's mark moved him into sixth place on the Hoyas' All-Time Top Performers' list for the indoor 1000-meters. 

 Sophomore Rasheed Thompson (Herndon, Va./Herndon) also turned in a fine performance, following Manning in the 1000-meter run where he finished ninth (2:28.07) and qualified for the IC4A Championships. The Hoyas turned in two top-10 finishes in the 800-meter run.. Senior Nat Glackin (Red Bank/ N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) finished third in  the 800 in 1:52.65, while junior Stanley Lagrenade (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack) finished ninth in 1:53.81.  Both runners qualified for the  IC4A Indoor Championships.

Sophomore Brian Dalpiaz (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) finished seventh in the 3000-meter run with an IC4A qualifying time of 8:17.47. Senior Charlie Millioen (Blue Point, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and freshman Michael Banks (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) finished behind Dalpiaz in the 3000 meters in 10th and 11th place with marks of 8:23.50 and 8:24.53, respectively. Both Millioen and Banks qualified for the IC4A championships.

The Hoyas finished sixth in the men's distance relay where sophomore Neil Grosscup (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest), junior Jared Jenkins (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest), freshman Michael Billington (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby), and senior Tim Erikson (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) turned in a time of 10:05.54. Georgetown also turned in a 12th-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:19.29).  Langrenade, Glackin, freshman Winston Weatherspoon( Beachwood, Ohio/Shaker Heights), and Bonner made up the 4x400 squad.  Both Hoya relay teams for the IC4A Championships.

On the women's side, senior Leilani Green (Los Osos, Calif./Morro Bay) set a new Georgetown indoor record in the pole vault with a mark of 12' 0".  The mark tied for third in the event and qualifed her for the ECAC competition.

Sophomore Kandance Ferguson (East Elmhurst, N.Y./Milton Hershey (Pa.)), who finished third in the 500-meter dash in 1:14.66.  Sophomore Nana Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) followed Ferguson across the finish line in fourth place with a mark of  1:15.00, while freshman Ashley Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) captured fifth (1:15.02) and sophomore Jayne Penn (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse) garnered 11th in 1:15.76. Hanson-Hall, Hubbard, and Penn all qualifed for the ECAC championships.

In the 1000-meter run, senior Kelley Otstott (Fairfax Station, Va./Thomas Jefferson) and junior Sabine Knothe (Dortmund, Germany/Mallinckrodt Gymnasium) finished fourth and fifth with  times of 2:50.46 and 2:50.61 respectively. Both Otstott and Knothe qualified for the ECAC championships. Junior Meghan O'Neil (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring Ford) qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 800-meters as she finished fifth in the race with a time of 2:13.38.

 The Hoyas finished seventh in the 4x400meter relay. Ferguson, Hubbard, Hanson-Hall and Penn combined to run 3.49.71.  The time qualifed Georgetown for the ECAC Championships. The Hoyas also finished third in the distance medley relay, with Hanson-Hall, O'Neil, Otstott, and freshman Carolyn Yates (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) timing an ECAC-qualifying 11:45.28.

Georgetown indoor track and field will next be participating in the Armory Invitational held at the New York Armory and the Meyo Invitational held at the University of Notre Dame on February 4-5, 2005.
