Hoyas Post Impressive Finishes at 2005 Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, CA - Junior Chris Lukezic won the 1500-meter Olympic Development Run at the 2005 Mt. SAC Relays, held Friday-Sunday, April 15-17, at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif. Several other Hoyas posted solid performances at the prestigious meet to qualify for post-season competition. The team also took part in the Springco/Long Beach State Invitational and the Lou Onesty/Milton B. Abramson Invitational at UVA.

Lukezic crossed the finish line of Section 2 of the 1500m Olympic Development run with a NCAA automatic regional qualifying time of 3:42.52. Lukezic bested USC's Thomasz Babiskiewiecz' mark of 3:43.41 and Wisconsin's Chris Solinsky's 3:43.78 to take the top spot.

Senior Rod Koborsi also qualified for the NCAAs with a 13:49.24 mark in the men's 5000m Invitational run. The time earned Koborsi 16th place in the event. Nike's Bernard Lagat was the winner of the 5000 in 13:14.71, followed by Kenya's Boaz Cheboiywo in second place in 13:22.12.

Senior Nat Glackin and junior Stanley Lagrenade returned to the Hilltop with 20th place finishes. Glackin ran to a 20th-place finish in the 800-meter University/Open run in 1:53.06, earning an opportunity to compete in the IC4As in the process. Willamette's Nick Symmons won the 800 in 1:48.92. Lagrenade also finished 20th in the 800-meter Olympic Development University/Open run with a time of 1:55.10.

Junior Steve Meinelt earned a 32nd-place finish in the 10,000-meter Invitational run with a time of 30:00.47. Robert Cheseret of Arizona won the 10,000 in 28:33.24. Neil Grosscup posted a 40th-place finish in the 1500-meter University/Open run with a time of 3:55.45.

Meghan O'Neil had the top finish on the women's side. O'Neil ran 2:09.34 to earn fourth place in the 800-meter Olympic Development run and qualify for NCAA regionals. Sophomore Nana Hanson-Hall finished seventh in the event with an ECAC qualifying mark of 2:09.83. Senior Kelley Otstott also qualified for ECACs in the 800 with a time of 2:12.72 for 17th place. Nebraska's Anne Shadle was the winner in 2:07.82.

Maggie Infeld continues to enjoy a terrific outdoor season. Infeld claimed fifth place in the 1500-meter Olympic Development University/Open run with an NCAA regional qualifying time of 4:22.22. Johanna Nilsson of Northern Arizona won the race in 4:18.60.

Elizabeth Maloy also picked up a fifth-place finish on the weekend. Maloy's time of 4:29.98 in the 1500-meter University/Open run also qualified her for ECACs. Lauren Mulkey was the winner in 4:27.53.

Erin Henry clocked 11:13.89 to earn a 24th-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Utah Valley State's Amanda Olsen turned in the winning time of 10:35.45.

Ashley Hubbard, Kandance Ferguson, Alex Baptiste and Nichole Torpey combined to run an NCAA qualifying 3:41.59 for fourth place in the 4x400-meter University/Open relay. The event title went to Pennsylvania State's "A" team that registered 3:37.60.

In addition to the Mt. SAC Relays, the Hoyas also competed at the Springco/Long Beach Invitational on Saturday, April 16. Quite a few Hoyas qualified for post-season competition at the meet.

Kelley Otstott, Meghan O'Neil, Nana Hanson-Hall and Jayne Penn made up the first-place 4 x 400-meter relay team. The Hoyas clocked 3:50.30 to take first place and qualify for ECACs. GU's 4 x 100m relay entry, with Nichole Torpey, Kandance Ferguson, Ashley Mondie and Ashley Hubbard, posted a time of 47.87 to earn fourth place.

Ferguson also ran the 200 and 400-meter dashes. She placed 10th in the 400-meters, out of 55 runners, with a mark of 55.94, while she earned a 13th place finish, also out of 55 runners, in the 200-meters in 24.75. Both marks qualify Ferguson for ECACs. Running right behind Ferguson in the 400 in 11th place was Ashley Hubbard. Hubbard posted a season-best 56.01 and also qualified for ECACs.

Senior Sabine Knothe ran to an 11th-place finish in the 800-meters. She recorded an ECAC-qualifying mark of 2:12.58. Also garnering an 11th-place finish and qualifying for ECACs was Kelley Otstott. Otstott completed the 1500-meter run in 4:38.35, with Hanson-Hall close behind in 13th place with a 4:40.80 mark. Hanson-Hall also qualifies for ECACs.

Ashley Mondie hit 38' Âľ" in the triple jump to finish third overall, while Alex Baptiste was third in the same event with a 37'1" mark.

Chris Bonner and Nat Glackin posted the top finishes on the men's side. Bonner ran to a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, while Glackin crossed the finish line of the 800-meter run in 1:53.11. Both men qualified for IC4As, as did Neil Grosscup. Grosscup ran 1:54.39 to place 21st in the 800 and qualify for the IC4A Championships.

Several members of the men's team also traveled south for the weekend of April 16-17 to take part in the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational held at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.

Junior Jesse Patterson showed his skills in both running and jumping. Patterson captured 15th place in the 100-meter dash (11.10) while taking home fifth in the long jump with a distance of 7.03m.

Sophomore Jonathan Geffrard finished 13th and 15th in the 100- and 200-meter dash respectively with times of 11.00 and 22.80.

The Georgetown men represented the Hoyas particularly well in the 1500-meter run. Senior Chris Esselborn finished fifth out of 59 runners with a time of 3:51.99. Teammate, sophomore Brian Dalpiaz, was right behind him in seventh place with a time of 3:52.52. Sophomore Rasheed Thompson and freshmen Shane Young and Michael Banks, finished 15th, 18th and 19th, respectively.

Freshman Scott Bastek finished with a time of 15:42.93 in the 5000-meter run which was good for twelfth place.
