Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown track & field team continued their impressive indoor season Saturday afternoon at the Giegengack Invitational, hosted by Yale University, highlighted by three student-athletes posting NCAA provisional qualifying times.
Sophomore Maggie Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) and junior Elizabeth Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./The Academy of Holy Names) each had provisional times in the Mile, as Infeld won the event at 4:43.14 and Maloy finished third at 4:45.98. Also with a provisional times were senior Tommy Manning (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit) and junior Nana Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) in the 800m. Both won the event with the fastest time in the BIG EAST so far at 1:48.48 and 2:07.76, respectively.
Aside from Hanson-Hall and Infeld's first place finishes, the Hoyas also had three other winners on the women's side. Freshman Avril Ogrodnick (Quebec, Canada/Beaconsfield) qualified for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships in the 3000m with a first place time of 9:48.18.
Georgetown had the three top collegiate finishers in the women's 500m, all qualifying for both the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships, led by junior Jayne Penn (New Haven, Conn./James Hillhouse). Penn crossed second overall, but first among the collegians with a time of 1:14.38, followed by freshman Buky Bamigboye (Brentwood, Tenn./University School) and sophomore Alex Baptiste (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) at 1:14.55 and 1:15.17, respectively.
The Hoyas also finished first in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:46.54, with the 'B' team crossing in third at 3:51.93.
Following Infeld and Maloy in the Mile were senior Erin Henry (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) and freshman Lise Ogrodnick (Quebec, Canada/Beaconsfield) who had ECAC qualifying times of 4:54.27 and 4:57.19, respectively. Meanwhile, freshman Christine Whalen (Los Gatos, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) and senior Meghan O'Neil (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford) finished third and fourth behind Hanson-Hall in the 800m with season best times.
In the women's 400m, junior Kandance Ferguson (East Elmhurst, N.Y./Milton Hershey) and sophomore Ashley Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) were second and third with season best and ECAC qualifying times of 55.91 and 56.17.
The men also had two first place finishes in addition to Manning's showing in the 800m. Senior Chris Bonner (Weston, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) won the 400m race at 48.60, while freshman Kenny Mitchell (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) was the top collegiate finisher in the 60m at 6.97.
In the Mile, junior Brian Dalpiaz (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) and junior Rasheed Thompson (Herndon, Va./Herndon) both qualified for the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships with second (4:07.66) and third (4:08.32) place finishes, while sophomore Justin Scheid (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXII) qualifed for the BIG EAST at 4:18.33.
Freshman Terrell Gissendanner (Rochester, N.Y./Edison Tech) and Khyle Osborne (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) each were second in their event, as Gissendanner qualified for the IC4A in the 60m hurdles at 8.24 and Osborne set a season best in the shot put with a distance of 15.71m. Sophomore Brandon Bonsey (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) also qualified for the IC4As with a time of 8:22.24 in the 3000m.
The men's 4x400m relay team was third at 3:14.51, the second fastest time among conference foes this spring.
The Hoyas return to the track on Friday, February 10 at the Collegiate Challenge Cup in State College, Pa.
