Buky Bamigboye Wins Penn Relay Heptathlon Championship

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown freshman Buky Bamigboye (Brentwood, Tenn./University School) won the 2006 Penn Relays heptathlon championship on Wednesday afternoon at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Bamigboye accumulated 5,033 points - a school record - in the seven-event competition. Her point total also qualifies her for the NCAA East Regional Championship, the ECAC Championships and the National Junior Championships.

On Wednesday, Bamigboye posted a jump of 5.44 meters (17.85 feet) in the long jump to finish second, had a throw of 27.94 m (91.67 feet) in the javelin and won the 800m, finishing in 2:17.24

Bamigboye is the first Georgetown athlete to win the Penn Relays heptathlon title and the first to ever win a multi-event at the Carnival.

She led the event after the completion of the first day of action on Tuesday, tallying 3,051 points, including two first place showings in the first four events.

Bamigboye began the day's action by winning the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 14.52. She then followed by clearing 5'3.25" in the high jump and tossing 32'9" in the shot put. Bamigboye concluded the afternoon with her second win and second personal record, a 25.06 time in the 200m.
