Washington, D.C. - The third day of competition at the Sea Ray Relays, hosted by the University of Tennessee, saw a high level of success for the Georgetown University outdoor track & field program.
The Hoya women placed four in the top-10 of the 1500m, all posting NCAA East Regional qualifying times. Graduate student Hilary Bontz (Fort Collins, Colo./Columbia University) led the way, placing second with a season-best time of 4:19.95. Georgetown also occupied the eighth, ninth and 10th placements with red shirt junior Elizabeth Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./The Academy of Holy Names), red shirt sophomore Maggie Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) and junior Joanna Rodgers (Fairfax, Va./NC State) all finishing within just over a minute of each other. Maloy improved upon her previous regional qualifying mark with a time of 4:24.06, Infeld qualified for the first time in 4:24.77 and Rodgers set a new personal record of 4:25.13. Freshman Lauren Gregory (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) was 18th overall in the 1500m, qualifying for the ECAC Championship in 4:33.50.
Georgetown also had a successful afternoon in the women's 800m. Junior Ashley Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) was the second Hoya to post runner-up honors on the day, setting a new personal best and improving on her previous regional mark, with a time of 2:08.51. Freshman Renee Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) was eighth in 2:09.66, qualifying for the NCAA East Regional for the first time, and senior Nana Hanson-Hall (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) was 12th in 2:10.57.
In other action for the women, senior Nichole Torpey (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa) was 21st in the 400m with a time of 56.25, a tenth of a second behind her exisiting ECAC mark this season.
The Hoya men only had competitors in two events - 800m and 1500m. In the 800m, graduate student Stanley Lagrenade (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack) ran a season-best time of 1:51.97 to place 11th, while freshman Danny Harris (Deer Park, N.Y./St John the Baptist) was 14th, qualifying for the IC4A Championships with a personal best time of 1:52.17.
Red shirt junior Rasheed Thompson (Herndon, Va./Herndon) was seventh in the 1500m, posting a BIG EAST qualifying time of 3:52.34.
The Hoyas complete action at the Sea Ray Relays on Saturday, beginning at 1:20 p.m. with the women's distance medley relay. Georgetown will also have a contingency at the Lou Onesty Invitational on the campus of the University of Virginia.
