Norfolk, Va. - The Georgetown men's tennis team fell, 6-1 to No. 38 Old Dominion University (Fila/ITA Division I rankings) on Friday afternoon, dropping their first match of the 2008 season.
Senior Ted Tywang (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and sophomore David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) defeated the Monarch's Yakov Diskin and Alex Funkhouser, 9-7in the third doubles position. Senior Jeffrey Schnell (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) and Kevin Walsh (Bernardsville, N.J./Delbarton), the region's No.12 pair, fell in a close, 9-8 match to Alexander Seleznev and Eidy Igarashi in the top doubles position.
Sophomore Will Lowell (Nahant, Mass./Saddlebrook Prep) picked up the Hoyas' lone singles victory in the fourth position, defeating Timo Gehrke, 6-4, 6-3. GU was unable to take another set in singles play from a Monarch team that features three seniors in their lineup.
Georgetown returns to the court tomorrow when they travel to Annapolis, Md., to take on Navy at noon.
