Final Stats
RICHMOND, Va. - RICHMOND, Va. - The Georgetown University men's tennis team defeated University of Richmond, 7-0 taking two of three doubles matches and sweeping singles play on Thursday afternoon. The Hoyas had four players pick up wins in singles and doubles action.
Senior Jeffrey Schnell (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) and junior Adam Gross (Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton) took the top doubles match 8-3 over Drew Crank and Mike Sommer and sophomore Anthony Tan (Jakarta, Indonesia/Anglo-Chinese Junior College) and senior Ted Tywang (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) took the No. 3 doubles match, 8-3 to capture the team point.
From there Hoyas rolled through singles play. Richmond's Doug Banker pushed Schnell to a third set, before Schnell squeaked out the third set to win, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 to win the top singles match. GU did not drop a set the rest of the way, as junior David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) defeated Mike Sommer, 6-4, 6-4 in the second singles match.
Tan posted an impressive 6-0, 6-0 victory in the third singles match and Gross outlasted Will Minter, winning the No. 4 singles match 7-5, 7-6. Tywang and senior Etienne Paris (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) each earned singles victory to complete the Hoyas shutout.
Georgetown returns to action on Wednesday, March 26 when they take on UMBC at the McDonough Tennis Complex at 2 p.m.
