WASHINGTON - Chris Kinney (Stockbridge, Ga./Stockbridge) was named the BIG EAST Male Track Athlete of the Week today out of the league offices in Providence, R.I. This is the second time the junior has received a weekly honor from the Conference in his career - Kinney picked up his first weekly honor during the 2009 outdoor track & field season.
At the Penn State National Invitational in State College, Pa., Kinney broke his own school record in the men's indoor 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.84. His previous record of 7.88 was set on February 6, 2010 at the New Balance Invitational held at The Armory in New York City.
"Chris did an outstanding job this past weekend at Penn State," Director of Track & Field / Cross County Patrick Henner said. "We look for him to continue to improve and challenge for a BIG EAST indoor hurdle title."
Kinney's time ties for seventh-best in the nation and is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. He is the lone representative of the BIG EAST Conference on the current list of NCAA qualifiers.
Georgetown returns to action this weekend on Friday and Saturday, February 6-7 as the Blue & Gray splits sites and sends a contingent to the Armory Invitational in New York City while a smaller group will travel to New Haven, Conn., for the Giegengack Invitational.
