BETHESDA, Md. - The Georgetown track & field program hosted the inaugural Hoya Spiked Shoe Club Invitational today at the Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence on the campus of Georgetown Prep in Bethesda, Md. The Hoyas hosted three other institutions in Howard, Richmond and William & Mary as well as an impressive array of post-collegiate athletes, some coached by legendary former Georgetown coach and GU Hall of Famer Frank Gagliano.

The first home indoor meet under the helm of Director of Track & Field / Cross Country Patrick Henner, today's event went off without a hitch and saw the return of many former Hoya coaches, student-athletes and staff. The Hanley Center was the perfect venue for today's meet with a six-lane, 200-meter flat track as the centerpiece with an eight-lane sprint straightaway. Many of the Georgetown runners were competing in events outside of their specialty as they used this home meet as an opportunity to continue training for the postseason.

Ayalew Taye (Portland, Maine/Cushing Academy) easily took the men's mile with a time of 4:08.82, a BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying time. The event looked more like a GU practice with the remainder of the field consisting of Hoyas, some running unattached, at Moise Joseph, a former Olympian from Haiti who ran at Florida. Max Darrah (South Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) finished second with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 4:19.09.

Toby Ulm (Marlborough, United Kingdom/St. John's School and Community College) came out of the blocks fast in the men's 500-meter dash and won the event with a 1:03.91, coasting through the finish. His time is a BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying time.

The men's 800-meter run saw a former Hoya on the line once again as Liam Boylan-Pett, now running with NJ-NY Track Club, won the event with a time of 1:51.55. Theon O'Connor (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion College) finished third in the event with a time of 1:52.99 to qualify for the BE and IC4A Championships. Brian Hencke (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) also qualified for both postseason events with his fourth-place 1:53.81.

Austin Perron (Philadelphia, Pa./High School of Engineering and Science) took first in the men's 300-meter dash with a time of 35.18 while Christian Tobias (Saint Louis, Mo./Mary Institute Country Day) took second with at ime of 35.74. Sean Suber (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) finished third (36.14).

Tobias captured the men's 60-meter hurdles crown with a time of 6.96, qualifying for both the BE and IC4A championships.

As the Hoyas have always been known to excel in the middle distance and distance, it was no surprise when three Hoyas ran conference championship qualifying times in the men's 1,000-meter run with Dylan Sorensen (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) finishing third (2:26.89), Billy Ledder (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga) finishing fifth (2:28.77) and Dan Leyh (Stafford, Va./Colonial Prep) finishing sixth (2:29.99). Sorensen and Ledder's times also qualified for the IC4A Championship.

The Hoya men took one and two in the men's 4x400-meter relay with O'Connor, Perron, Ledder and Ulm teaming up for the IC4A-qualifying time of 3:19.14 while All-American John Maloy (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker), two-time All-American Chris Kinney (Stockbridge, Ga./Stockbridge), Nick Letourneau (Anchorage, Alaska/Georgetown Prep) and Hansel Akers (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) took second with a 3:23.10.

The men's 4x800-meter relay saw Boylan-Pett return to the track as he ran the second leg in the winning foursome with a time of 7:33.98. Leyh, Taye, Hencke and Manning placed second (7:48.29).

The women's 1,000-meter run saw BIG EAST standouts past and present battle each other on the same stage. Marina Muncan, a standout from Villanova, won the event with Frances Koons, a fellow Wildcat, in second place. Former Hoya and four-time All-American Elizabeth Maloy took third place with a time of 2:49.69 followed by current Hoya and three-time All-American Renee Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) in fourth place (2:50.34) who was running the event unattached. All-American Rachel Schneider (Dover,N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) finished fifth with a time of 2:51.01, a BIG EAST qualifying time.

Tenille Stoudenmire (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) won the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.69, a BIG EAST qualifying time. Amanda Kimbers (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh), a GU school record holder, won the women's 300-meter dash with a time of 39.97 followed by Deidra Sanders (Memphis, Tenn./Eastern) in second (41.27).

Chelsea Cox (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) won the women's 500-meter dash timing in at 1:13.36, a BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying time followed by Becca DeLoache (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) with a time of 1:15.81, also qualifying for both postseason championships.

Diana Sainvil (Harksdale, N.Y./Woodlands) won the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.11.

Lauren Borduin (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) and Katie McCafferty (Convent Station, N.J./Oak Knoll) both qualified for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships in the women's mile with times of 4:52.88 and 4:53.28, respectively.

Sanders, Kimbers, Stoudenmire and Chela Green (Nashville, Tenn./Ensworth) won the women's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:52.23.

Borduin, Schneider, DeLoache and Shanique Dasilva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) competed in the women's 4x800-meter relay, finishing second with a time of 9:07.09.

The Hoyas will now take two weeks off before traveling to College Station, Pa., for the Penn State National on January 28-29.
