WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field program traveled to Princeton, N.J., on the final weekend of the regular season for the Larry Ellis Invitational. On a day when the University was officially closed, the Hoyas competed in eight events with the distance program attempting to make the last round of conference qualifiers.
Max Darrah and Matthew Howard both competed in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with both running BIG EAST Conference Championship times as Darrah recorded a 9:00.38 and Howard timing in at 9:16.03.
A quartet of student-athletes donning blue and gray crossed the finish line in enough time to qualify for the women's 800-meter league championship with Emily Menges leading the way (2:09.22) followed by All-American Lauren Borduin who timed in at 2:09.97. Becca DeLoache and Shanique Dasilva also qualified for the BE Championship with times of 2:10.96 and 2:12.32, respectively.
Theon O'Connor was the lone Hoya to qualify for the league championship in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.28, the 13th-fastest time of the day.
Finishing within one second of each other, All-Americans Madeline Chambers and Chelsea Cox finished with times of 4:23.39 and 4:24.23 in the women's 1,500-meter run, respectively. Both qualified for the league championship.
In the men's 1,500-meter run, Dan Leyh ran a BE-qualifying time as he crossed at 3:51.25.
The Hoyas will continue competition tomorrow at the Larry Ellis Invitational. The Hoyas will spend the next two weekends in the Philadelphia area with the Penn Relays on April 28-30 at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania and the BIG EAST Championships held at Jumbo Elliott Track in Villanova, Pa., on May 6-8.
