Oct. 9, 2017 WASHINGTON - Three members of the No. 10 Georgetown University men's soccer team earned BIG EAST Conference honors on Monday. Senior midfielder Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass./The Rivers School) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and junior JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Rounding out the awards was freshman forward Derek Dodson (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) who was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
McCabe had an impressive offensive showing on Friday afternoon in a 3-0 win over then-No. 15 Butler. McCabe had a "foot" in each of the Hoyas' three goals for four points against the previously undefeated in league action Butler. McCabe scored the eventual game winner, drawing first blood at the end of the second minute of play. McCabe helped make it 2-0 in the 10th minute as he assisted Achara's (Enugu, Nigeria/Berkshire School [Mass.]) goal. McCabe added his second assist of the match on Dodson's insurance goal in the 34th minute.
This is McCabe's first career weekly honor and Georgetown's first offensive player of the week award of the season.
Marcinkowski earned his fourth shutout victory of the season, behind three goals by the Hoya offense in the Butler win. He had three saves in the 90 minutes, and a 1.000 save percentage.
This is Marcinkowski's seventh career weekly award and his third goalkeeper of the week honor, including two this season. He has also been named to the honor roll twice.
Dodson scored the insurance goal for two points against Butler. Dodson's goal was his fourth of the season, he ranks second on the team in points with 11 and is second in goals with five including one on Monday in a loss to No. 19 Duke.
This is Dodson's second freshman of the week honor, as well as GU's second rookie award this season.
The Hoyas will return to BIG EAST play on Friday as the squad travels to Pennsylvania to battle the Villanova University Wildcats at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Live stats and a webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
