Men's Soccer Names 2017 Captains

April 19, 2017

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Men's Soccer Coach Brian Wiese announced the 2017 team captains on Wednesday. Sophomore goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle), junior midfielder Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./St. Stephen's Episcopal School) and sophomore defender Brendan McDonough (Matthews, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) were selected by the coaching staff and their teammates to lead the 2017 squad.

"We have a strong group of captains for next season," said Wiese. "I'm excited to have JT back as a captain and I think he will bring a lot of what he's learning with the national team. Chris and Brendan give us captains scattered throughout the field and will provide leadership in the locker room and on the field."

This past season as captain, Marcinkowski helped the Hoyas to four shutouts, tallying 63 saves and a 1.23 GAA.

As a freshman, Marcinkowski had a breakout rookie year for the Hoyas earning NSCAA Second Team All-Great Lakes Region, First Team All-BIG EAST, as well as BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors. He started all 21 games for the Blue & Gray, and posted a 0.69 GAA on the season totaling 63 saves. He went 16-2-3 in the net and managed nine shutouts.

Marcinkowski already ranks third in single-season shutouts and fifth in program history in career shutouts.

Lema was named First Team All-BIG EAST last season. He started all 17 contests for the Blue & Gray and was GU's third-leading scorer with one goal and a squad-best five assists for the year. Three of those assists came in league play. Lema was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Oct. 31 after posting two assists in a 3-2 victory over Villanova.

McDonough started 15 games for Georgetown last season and tallied his first career goal as well as his first career assist. He was part of a defense that managed four shutouts. As a freshman, McDonough appeared in nine games with three starts to his credit.

Georgetown will close out spring play with a game against the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Saturday at Striker Park in Richmond, Va. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
