Women’s Rowing Picks up Six First Place Finishes at Head of the Occoquan

WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University women's rowing team sent 10 boats to compete at the 34th Head of the Occoquan (HOTO) on Saturday in Fairfax, Va. The Hoyas ended their fall schedule on a high note, picking up six first place finishes, two second place finishes and an additional two top five finishes. 
 
GU picked up first and second place finishes in both the varsity women's 8+ and junior varsity women's 8+ events. The varsity event hosted a field of 15 boats while the junior varsity event features five boats.
 
In the frosh women's 8+ event, the Hoyas finished first and third with Catholic University picking up second place. Georgetown crossed the finish line with a time of 17:28.89 to clinch first.
 
The varsity 4+ boat added to the Hoyas' first place tallies on the day, crossing the finish with a time of 18:38.20 in the field of 16.
 
The last events of the day featured the lightweight 4+ squad in a head-to-head matchup with La Salle University and the junior varsity 4+ boat. The lightweight 4+ squad crossed the finish line at 18:25.63, over two minutes ahead of La Salle. In the three-boat junior varsity 4+ event, GU picked up its final first place finish of the day, beating out La Salle and Penn State with a time of 20:41.96.
 
The Hoyas will return to competition in March to begin its spring slate of races.
