WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's tennis team opened its BIG EAST road weekend against the Marquette Golden Eagles on Friday afternoon in Milwaukee. The squad dropped the decision 5-2 with singles wins from freshman
Andrew Rozanov (London, England / Westminster) and sophomore
Mark Militzer (Charleston, S.C. / Connections Academy).
The Golden Eagles edged the Hoyas for the doubles point, winning two matches. Senior
Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) and partner sophomore
Charlie Sharton (Wayland, Mass. / Wayland) were defeated by Luke Smrek and Luis Heredia 7-5 while senior
Will Sharton (Wayland, Mass. / Wayland) and Militzer were defeated 6-1. The third match saw no winner as the contest did not finish.
In singles, Rozanov defeated his opponent in a comeback victory 2-6, 6-4, 9-8. Militzer saw a similar result, finishing the match with a 10-7 victory in the third set. Sophomore
Luke Ross (Sewickley, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) battled Heredia to three sets, but dropped the deciding set 6-1.
The Hoyas will finish out their Midwest road trip tomorrow, Jan. 26, as they take on the DePaul Blue Demons in a BIG EAST matchup at 4 p.m. in Chicago.
