Football Set for Tough Matchup at Lehigh

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team will travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania this weekend for a Saturday showdown at Lehigh. The Patriot League matchup is slated to kick off at 12:30 p.m. at Lehigh's Goodman Stadium.

  • Saturday's game will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network with Steve Degler calling the play-by-play and Mike Yadush providing analysis. Kristi Fulkerson will be reporting from the sidelines.

ABOUT GEORGETOWN
  • Georgetown enters Saturday's contest with a 5-2 overall record and a 1-1 mark in Patriot League play.
  • A win on Saturday would clinch the program's first winning season since 2011.
  • The Hoyas lead the Patriot League and rank second in the country in defensive interceptions (11), third in scoring defense (12.6 ppg) and fourth in total defense (287.4 ypg).
  • Gunther Johnson has completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 896 yards and second touchdowns, while also rushing for 276 yards and five scores.
  • Herman Moultrie III leads the GU rushing attack with 379 yards and seven touchdowns, the most by a Hoya since 2012.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Hoyas held off a couple of late drives by Lafayette to defeat the Leopards 14-10 last Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field.
  • Joshua Stakely recorded his first career touchdown reception with six seconds left in the second quarter to provide the game-winning score on a season-long 16-play drive.
  • Johnson led the GU offense, completing 21-of-36 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns while also leading all rushers with 35 yards.
  • Dereus had team highs of six catches for 58 yards and a touchdown.
  • Delano Salgado and Ahmad Wilson both had an interception, while Cameron Deen and George Ikott led the defense with six tackles apiece.
  • Johnson and Wilson were selected Patriot League Honorable Mention on Tuesday.
 
SCOUTING LEHIGH
  • Lehigh enters Saturday's matchup with a 3-3 overall record, having won its past three games, and a 2-0 mark in the Patriot League.
  • The Mountain Hawks are fifth in the league in scoring (16.2 ppg), but the defense is second behind the Hoyas in both scoring defense (22.8 ppg) and total defense (380.8 ypg).
  • Quarterback Tyler Monaco is third in the Patriot League, averaging 203.5 passing yards per game while throwing for five touchdowns and five interceptions.
  • Zaythan Hill leads the rushing attack with 256 yards and two touchdowns, while Devon Bibbens has team highs of 38 catches, 449 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
  • Linebacker Keith Woetzel, who was named the National Defensive Player of the Week after last weekend's win over Fordham, leads the Patriot League with 12.0 tackles per game and 8.5 sacks.
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Georgetown and Lehigh are meeting for the 25th time, with the Mountain Hawks holding an 18-6 series advantage.
  • The Hoyas won last year's matchup, 22-16 in double overtime, to end Lehigh's 17-game winning streak in the series and mark GU's first win in the series since 1925.
  • Jackson Saffold scored a rushing touchdown in each overtime period.
  • Johnson completed 16-of-37 passes for 270 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown pass to Dereus.
  • Wes Bowers had a team-high 11 tackles and returned a blocked PAT for a 2-point score.
