Football Closes Nonconference Play at Cornell

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team closes out nonconference play on Saturday against Cornell, GU's second-straight matchup against an Ivy League opponent. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Cornell's Schoellkopf Field in Ithaca, New York.

ABOUT GEORGETOWN
  • The Hoyas enter Saturday's contest with a 3-1 overall record and a three-game winning streak.
  • The GU defense leads the Patriot League and ranks second in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 10.0 ppg. The Hoyas have forced 12 turnovers (6 fumbles, 6 interceptions) to rank fifth nationally.
  • The Hoya offense is 10th in the country with an average of 39.0 ppg.
  • Herman Moultrie III leads the GU rushing attack with 213 yards on the ground and five touchdowns.
  • Cameron Crayton has a team-high 15 catches, while Joshua Tomas leads the receiving corps with 235 receiving yards on 13 catches and Michael Dereus has three receiving touchdowns.
  • Xavier Reddick leads the defense with 24 total tackles and 4.0 TFL, while tying for the team lead with 2.0 sacks.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Georgetown won its third-straight game, defeating Columbia 24-10 on Saturday to reclaim the Lou Little Trophy for the first time since 2017.
  • The Hoyas outgained Columbia 231-224 and the defense held the Lions to just 30 rushing yards on 35 attempts.
  • The GU defense forced five turnovers on three interceptions and two fumbles, while registering four sacks.
  • Joseph Brunell entered the game in the second quarter and completed 10-of-19 passes for 146 yards, while also rushing for a touchdown.
  • Herman Moultrie III gained 36 yards on 19 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns.
  • Joshua Tomas finished with 206 all-purpose yards, including a team-high 104 receiving yards. He also rushed for 21 yards, had 15 yards on punt returns and 66 yards on three kickoff returns.
  • Xavier Reddick led the defense with nine total tackles, including 1.0 sacks and 2.0 TFL.
  • Khristian Tate had seven tackles with 2.0 sacks, 2.5 TFL and one forced fumble.
  • Wes Bowers also forced a fumble on a strip sack, while Micah McNeil, Jonathan Honore and Justin Fonteneaux all had interceptions.
  • Tate and Tomas earned Patriot League Honorable Mention honors on Monday.
 
SCOUTING CORNELL
  • Cornell enters the weekend with a 1-1 record after opening the season with a 21-7 win at Marist before dropping a 27-16 contest to preseason Ivy League favorite Yale last weekend.
  • Running back Harold Coles in fourth nationally in rushing yards per game (134.0 ypg.).
  • The Big Red returns 14 starters (six offense, eight defense), as well as its punter, placekicker, long-snapper and return specialists from 2018, when the team went 3-7.
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Georgetown and Cornell are meeting for the fourth time on Saturday and the first since 2007.
  • The Big Red own a 2-1 advantage with wins in 2007 and 2005, while the Hoyas won the first matchup in 2003.
