Georgetown Ready for Terrier Invitational

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team will make the trip north to Boston for the 15th annual Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University this weekend. The three-day, championship-style meet will feature six teams and will take place at BU's Competition Pool.
 
ABOUT THE MEET
  • The Hoyas will be swimming against the host Terriers as well as Boston College, UMass, New Hampshire and Northeastern.
  • Preliminary heats will start at 10 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • The evening finals will take place at 6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, and 5 p.m. on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Georgetown is coming off a split against Fordham on Nov. 2 at McCarthy Pool as the Hoya men won their fifth-straight meet to start the year with a 219-79 victory, while the GU women came up just short 159-141.
  • The men's squad was dominant from start to finish, winning 15-of-16 events on the day, including the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.
  • Five different Hoyas won multiple events, with Michael Wheeler, Drew Carbone, Terry Johnson, Brett Sherman and Sean Devlin all won two races apiece.
  • On the women's side, Georgetown's four swimming victories all came from freshmen.
  • Samantha Kim led the way with a pair of individual victories, winning both breaststroke events.
  • Wheeler and Kim were named the BIG EAST Athletes of the Week, marking the third time the Hoyas swept the awards this season and the eighth different Georgetown student-athletes to earn the honor.
 
COMING UP NEXT
Following this weekend's meet, the Hoyas will send several swimmers to the U.S. Winter Nationals, held at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta. The four-day meet, Dec. 4-7, will serve as an opportunity to qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials.
