BOSTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team wrapped up competition at the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University, on Sunday. On the final day of the three-day meet, the Hoyas broke a pair of records as the men's squad finished second and the women's team placed third. The six-team meet took place at BU's Competition Pool.
 
The men's team finished with 976.5 points, behind only Boston College (1,192). The Hoyas placed ahead of both UMass (723.5) and the host Terriers (709). The GU women accumulated 708.5 points to finish behind both BC (997) and Northeastern (759), while topping BU (634.5), UMass (461) and New Hampshire (289).
 
MEN'S TEAM

• Connor Morikawa led a Hoya sweep in the 200-yard breaststroke, breaking the school record with a time of 2:02.85. Carlson Temple and Matthew Szilagyi completed the podium sweep with second- and third-place finishes, respectively.
• Drew Carbone broke the BU pool record with a winning time of 1:45.16 in the 200-yard backstroke. Brett Sherman placed third and Matthew Braviak placed sixth. Henry Hollinshead won the "B" final.
• Michael Wheeler cruised to a 14-second victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
• In the 100-yard freestyle, Jack Calderwood had a strong swim to finish fourth while Sean Percin tied for fifth and Sean Devlin tied for seventh.
• Jack Lynch raced to a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly and Michael Baldini won the "B" final.
• The quartet of Calderwood, Percin, Devlin and Carbone finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay, while the team of Sherman, Josiah Lauver, Baldini and Wheeler claimed fourth.

 
WOMEN'S TEAM

• Corey Moon placed second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with Ryan Evangelista finishing eighth.
• Phoebe Slaughter took fifth in the 200-yard backstroke, while Evie Mauzé won the "B" final.
• Belinda Donohoe tied for third in the 100-yard freestyle, while Megan Smith took eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke.
• Lauren Henasey and Cristina Barrett finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200-yard butterfly.
• The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Alexandra Robertson, Lauren Rutledge, Evangelista and Donohoe placed fourth.

 
COMING UP NEXT
Following this weekend's meet, the Hoyas will send several swimmers to the U.S. Winter Nationals, held at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta. The four-day meet, Dec. 4-7, will serve as an opportunity to qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials.
