Hoyas Shut Out Sacred Heart 2-0 to Close Season

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University field hockey team (6-13) was impressive in its season finale after going on the road and shutting out Sacred Heart (5-14) 2-0 on Sunday morning at Johnson Field. Senior Michaela Bruno and the Hoya offense was relentless in their offensive efforts to secure the season ending road win. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Cami Osborne attacked early as she took a shot just four minutes into the game that was blocked by a Pioneer defender. 

  • Emily Fraser scored her first goal of the season five minutes into the game on a GU penalty stroke. 

  • Bruno attempted three shots in the second quarter, finding the back of the cage on with just under three minutes remaining in the second quarter to give GU a 2-0 lead. 

  • Led by goalkeeper Ciara Weets and back Sydney Stephenson, the Hoya defense was able to keep Sacred Heart off the board.

 

OF NOTE

  • Weets came into the game as the BIG EAST leader in saves. She ends the season with 89 saves.

  • Georgetown outshot Sacred Heart 11-5.

  • The Pioneers edged the Hoyas in penalty corners with a 3-2 advantage.

  • Osborne ended the day with three shots.
