WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team dropped an 8-1 decision to local rival George Washington in the final game of the Buff & Blue Challenge hosted by the Colonials. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 7-21 after its final tournament of the 2019 campaign while GW advances to 21-7.
Senior
Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md. / Northern) went 3 for 4 at the plate and brought in the lone run for the Blue & Gray. Sophomore
Macy Cartwright (Naples, Fla. / Naples) had two hits on the day. Junior
Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas / St. John's School) threw 3.0 innings in the circle and allowed four runs off of four hits. She walked four and struck out one. Junior
Casey Kozak (Marlton, N.J. / Bishop Eustace) allowed two more runs off of four hits, struck out one and walked two.
The Colonials jumped to a 4-0 lead in the third inning off of a pair of hits and added another pair of runs in the next inning off of a wild pitch and another hit. The Hoyas entered the scoring column in the top of the fifth when Bennett singled to second base and scored junior
Alexa Dolby (Round Hill, Va. / Woodgrove), but the one run could not catch up to GW's 8-1 lead after scoring another pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.
In its last at-bat, Georgetown had an opportunity to score with sophomore
Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif. / Terra Linda) and freshman
Mae Forshey (Phoenix, Ariz. / Arcadia) on base with two outs, but Bennett's ground out to second left the runners on base and ended the game in an 8-1 loss.
Up next, the Blue & Gray will kick off BIG EAST play next weekend hosting Creighton at Nats Youth Academy. Georgetown will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon and a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m. Live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
