JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In its first midweek matchup of the season, the Georgetown University softball team fell to the North Florida Ospreys 5-0. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 5-13 on the season.
At the plate, senior
Olivia Russ (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Ocean View) and freshman
Kiki Besnard (Irvine, Calif. / Northwood) led GU with one hit apiece.
In the circle, junior
Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas / St. John's School) threw 5.0 innings and allowed a pair of runs off of five hits while striking out five and walking one. Sophomore
London Diller (Abilene, Texas / George Ranch) finished the game, giving up three runs off of four hits.
Both squads held their battles both offensively and defensively, giving up minimal amount of hits until the bottom of the fifth when the Ospreys entered the scoring column. Aside from a tremendous diving catch from junior
Alexa Dolby (Round Hills, Va. / Woodgrove) to tally an out, North Florida scored a pair of runs to make it 2-0.
Georgetown had an opportunity in the top of the sixth when Russ found a gap in right field and was followed by sophomore
Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif. / Terra Linda), whose patient eye landed her a walk to first base. Besnard performed a sacrifice bunt to successfully advance the runners on base, but the following batters could not advance them any further.
The Ospreys went on to score three more runs in the bottom of the sixth, while the Hoyas struggled to make any plays at the plate, making the final score 5-0.
The Blue & Gray will return to action this weekend in the Jacksonville Tournament and will play five games throughout the course of Friday, March 8 until Sunday, March 10. Live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
