WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team dropped an 8-0 decision to the Villanova Wildcats on Friday afternoon in the BIG EAST series finale. The Hoyas gave up eight runs in the first two innings to fall to 'Nova at Nats Youth Academy. With the loss, GU falls to 11-31 overall and 4-9 in the BIG EAST while the Wildcats improve to 24-20 on the season and 7-5 in the conference.
 
Seniors Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md. / Northern) and Kelly Amen (Hillsborough, N.J. / Hillsbourgh) and freshman Mae Forshey (Phoenix, Ariz. / Arcadia) each had a hit on the day. Sophomore London Diller (Sugar Land, Texas / George Ranch) started in the circle for GU. She threw 1.1 innings and gave up six runs off of five hits, walked two and struck out one. Junior Katie Vannicola (Vienna, Va. / James Madison HS) relieved Diller for 0.2 innings, allowing two runs off of three hits while striking out one. Freshman Cassie Henning (Atlanta, Ga. / Wesleyan) finished the game and allowed just one hit.
 
The Wildcats opened the scoring early on in the first inning when the second batter in the lineup hit a two-run homer out of center field. They advanced to 6-0 in the next inning with a grand slam to left field. A few batters later, Villanova scored two more runs off of a back-to-back triple and double to make it 8-0 before Georgetown had its chance to fight back.
 
The Hoyas struggled at the plate to get the bats going but were able to hold the Wildcats from scoring the following innings as the squads finished in five innings with an 8-0 victory for Villanova.
