8/22/2019 11:34:00 AM

WASHINGTON –Georgetown University Swimming & Diving Head Coach Jack Leavitt has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2019-20 season. The Hoyas will race in nine regular season meets as they prepare for the 2020 BIG EAST Championships, including three home events at Albert G. McCarthy Jr. Pool.

"This year's schedule will provide our team with a strong, competitive balance of meets," Leavitt said. "Our goal each year is to be at our best going into February and the BIG EAST Championships, and I think this schedule sets us up perfectly for that."

The Hoyas will open the season with a pair of exhibition events. The annual Blue & Gray intrasquad meet will take place on Saturday, September 28 at 3 p.m. at McCarthy Pool. The following weekend, Georgetown will take part in the Potomac Relays, with the swimming events taking place at American University and the diving being hosted by the Hoyas.

The regular season will begin with a home dual meet on Thursday, October 10 when Towson visits the Hilltop. The Blue & Gray will stay in the District when it makes the short trip to American for a meet on Friday, October 18. The Hoyas will remain on the road to close out the month of October when they travel to Davidson to swim against the Wildcats on Saturday, October 26.

Georgetown will travel to BIG EAST foe Villanova on Saturday, November 2 for a dual meet before returning home one week later, November 9, when it welcomes Fordham to McCarthy Pool. The final regular season meet of the semester will take place when the Hoyas compete at the Terrier Invite, hosted by Boston University, the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Qualifying swimmers will have the opportunity to compete at the 2019 U.S. Winter National Championships, December 3-7, at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Student-athletes can qualify based on time standards and will race for the opportunity to qualify for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials. At last year's championships, junior Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass. / Central Catholic) qualified for the Olympic Trials in both the 100- and 200-meter backstroke. The Olympic Trials will be held in Omaha, Nebraska in June 2020.

The Hoyas will open the spring semester with a quick trip to George Washington for a dual meet on Saturday, January 18. The squad will host its final home meet of the season on Saturday, January 25 when it celebrates Senior Day against Drexel. The regular season will come to a close the weekend of January 31-February 1 when GU travels to New Jersey for a neutral-site meet against conference opponents Providence and Seton Hall. Racing will take place at the Berkeley (N.J.) Aquatic Club.

The 2020 BIG EAST Championships will return to the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, New York. The championship meet will take place February 26-29. Last season, the GU men finished second at the BIG EAST Championships, while the women placed third. The Hoyas won six gold medals overall and set 15 program records. Georgetown had a league-high 24 student-athletes earn All-BIG EAST honors with 13 women receiving all-conference recognition in 17 events, while the men's squad saw 11 student-athletes earn accolades in 32 events.
