Hoyas Pick Up Weekend Sweep With 2-1 Win Against La Salle

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University field hockey team improved to 5-3 on the season after a 2-1 win at Cooper Field against La Salle (3-4). Senior Michaela Bruno led the way, scoring her second goal in as many games to give the Hoyas their first 2-0 weekend of the season. Georgetown held the Explorers scoreless after two quarters, holding on to a two-goal lead in the third quarter before a late goal from La Salle.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bruno looked to score early on a fastbreak, but her shot was just saved by La Salle's Chloe South.

  • Senior Emily Fraser attempted a long shot off Ali Cronin's penalty corner from the top of the box that South was able stop.

  • Midway through the second quarter Bruno scored after stealing the ball away from a La Salle defender.

  • Sophomore midfielder Halle Gill scored her first goal of the season from the middle of the box surrounded by La Salle defenders.

  • Down 2-0, the Explorers scored on a Casey Reilly shot off a penalty corner from Chloe Lucky.

OF NOTE

  • Georgetown outshot La Salle 10-6, with seven of those attempts on goal.

  • La Salle won the penalty corner battle, attempting 10 to Georgetown's four.

  • Hoya  goalkeeper Ciara Weets had three saves on the day.
