WASHINGTON – The Georgetown swimming & diving team returned to the Hilltop on Tuesday following its annual winter training trip in Puerto Rico. Throughout GU's week-long stay, GUHoyas.com has received updates from members of the team. Today's final update is from senior
Jack Reichert.
…
My final training trip started out with my roommates and I spending way too much

money on groceries. It probably could've been cheaper, but we made the collective decision to buy the fancy bread being sold at the San Juan grocery store as opposed to the regular brand. We bought eight loaves for a week of training and ate all of them. It helped that we were living with team bread aficionado
Emmanuel Emovon.
Despite practices being physically exhausting, we all spent a lot of time on the beach. A couple teammates and I rented surfboards to go Surfin' USA (and its respective territories).
Griffin Edmonds and I shredded the waves like paper. I started to get a full body rash from the surfboard but powered through the pain using my NCAA Division I college athlete work ethic and continued to surf. I then had to use the same work ethic to power through the pain of the chlorine burning my rash every time I got into the pool.
Our team was lucky enough to meet up with some alumni to watch the Georgetown

versus Seton Hall basketball game at a restaurant outside our hotel called Lupi's. We watched our Hoyas and talked about swimming, Georgetown and Puerto Rico with some great alums. It's awesome that we have such a big community.
I would have to say that my favorite parts of the trip were when everyone got together and just hung out. Whether it was on the beach, the bus or at dinners, being able to have everyone at the same place at once was great. It isn't every day you get to go to Puerto Rico with 60 of your best friends. I had that thought to myself sitting on the beach and felt grateful.
Overall, this training trip was a great experience. I'm so glad I get to be a part of this team and to have had this experience. It's my last training trip and I'm happy that I got to finish it off in San Juan.
