EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team had a great start to the 2020 BIG EAST Championships, presented by Jeep on Wednesday evening at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. Riley Fujioka won her first career individual title in the women's 1-meter dive, while the Hoya men blew past the program record in the 200-yard medley relay.
 
TEAM RANKINGS

• Georgetown's women hold a 15-point lead in the team standings, accumulating 136 points on the first night. They lead Villanova (121) by 15 points and have healthy leads over Seton Hall (79), Xavier (68) and Providence (67). Butler (54) rounds out the standings.
• On the men's side, the Hoyas are tied with Villanova for first place with 70 points. Seton Hall (68) is right behind in third while Xavier (64) and Providence (56) are fourth and fifth, respectively.

 
HOYA WOMEN

• Fujioka led from the get-go, holding a 28.5-point lead with 279 points after the prelim round. She then scored a 281.3 in the finals to clinch the commanding win.
• Elizabeth Miller claimed second with 516.15 points and Margaret Barnhorst was fourth with 489 points. Emily Ginovker (448.2) also scored points for the Hoyas in eighth place.
• The relay team of Cristina Barrett, Lauren Rutledge, Ryan Evangelista and Alexandra Robertson overcame a slow start to finish third in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:28.38.
• Georgetown also claimed bronze in the 200-yard medley relay as Grace Chen, Alexandra Rieker, Gabriella Meringolo and Belinda Donohoe touched the wall in 1:42.70.

 
GEORGETOWN MEN

• The Blue & Gray bested the program record by nearly two full seconds in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of Drew Carbone, Connor Morikawa, Michael Baldini and Sean Devlin led from start to finish to win in a time of 1:28.48.
• The team of Josiah Lauver, Matthew Braviak, Sean Percin and Brett Sherman finished the 800-yard freestyle relay in 6:37.49 to place fourth, just .94 seconds out of first place in a very tight race.

The BIG EAST Championships will continue on Wednesday with the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, men's 3-meter diving and 200-yard freestyle relay.
