Softball Slides Past North Dakota

WASHINGTON – Sophomore Mae Forshey of the Georgetown University softball team had a dominant performance at the plate on Sunday against North Dakota in the final game of the UNCW Softball Invitational. Forshey led the Hoyas to a 6-4 victory over the Fighting Hawks. With the win, the Hoyas advance to 8-15 on the season while UND falls to 7-17.
 
How it Happened
  • Georgetown opened up the scoring in the first inning as Forshey landed an RBI single to score senior Ciara Sullivan.
  • The Hoyas scored four runs in the next inning off of a two-run double by freshman Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza. Forshey brought in another run for GU in the same inning with a double to extend Georgetown's lead to 5-0.
  • North Dakota answered in the bottom of the inning with a home run.
  • Junior London Diller doubled to center field in the fifth inning and scored junior Savannah Jones to make it 6-1.
  • The Fighting Hawks managed to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh off of a pair of hits but the Hoya defense held them to a 6-4 victory.
 
Of Note
  • Diller got the start in the circle and threw 6.0 innings. The junior gave up one run off of six hits. Senior Katie Vannicola relieved Diller in the last inning and allowed three runs off of three hits.
  • Forshey had a game-high four hits, including two doubles. Jones also had a pair of doubles on the day while Vasquez-Inzunza and Diller recorded one apiece.
  • Vasquez-Inzunza and Forshey each tallied two RBIs.
