Box Score WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University field hockey had a challenging matchup against No. 18 University of Connecticut on the road Friday afternoon, losing 2-0 in Storrs, Connecticut. The Hoyas dropped the game against the Huskies after UConn scored a pair of goals in the third quarter. Georgetown falls to 8-8 (2-4 BIG EAST) on the season, and UConn improves to 9-8 (5-1 BIG EAST).
 
How it Happened
·         The Hoyas kept the Huskies scoreless through the first half. UConn outshot Georgetown 8-5 in the half but senior Ciara Weets deflected away two shots on goal. 
·         With six minutes left in the third period, Georgetown had a scoring opportunity after freshman Sophie Towne sent a shot past UConn's goalkeeper. The ball ricocheted off the back post and was rebounded by senior Georgina Eberle, but the Huskies fended off the Hoya attack.  
·         With under two minutes left in the third quarter, UConn took advantage of a penalty corner and scored to make it a 1-0 game. Forty-five seconds later, UConn earned a penalty stroke and scored its second goal of the matchup.
·         The fourth quarter began with UConn leading 2-0. Weets had three saves in the final period to keep the Huskies from putting another point on the board. Despite solid goalkeeping from the Hoyas, UConn walked away with the victory.
 
Of Note
·         The Hoyas took eight shots and had seven penalty corners during the game.
·         Goalkeeper Ciara Weets had seven saves in the game, putting her at 100 saves on the season.
