Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 5/5 Hoyas Blank No. 23/24 Rams 4-0

WASHINGTON – The No. 5/5 Georgetown University men's soccer team scored four first-half goals to cruise to a comfortable 4-0 victory over the No. 23/24 Fordham University Rams Sunday afternoon at Shaw Field. The Hoyas are now 2-0 on the season, while the Rams drop to 0-2 on the year.

Head Coach Brian Wiese
  • "Out fitness was really on display this weekend. Even though it wasn't as hot today, it was still really humid and we were coming off of a 48-hour turnaround after the delayed game. For us to be as sharp and efficient as we were in the first half, getting into goal-scoring spots like we did was really positive to see."
How it Happened
  • The Hoyas struck early as sophomore Kyle Linhares passed through Zach Riviere's legs at the top of the box to classmate Chris Hegardt. He served it in to the back post to junior Stefan Stojanovic for his first goal in a GU uniform.
  • In the 23rd minute, a takedown by Fordham keeper Callum James in the box resulted in a penalty kick as junior captain Dante Polvara connected for his first goal on the campaign.
  • The third goal of the game was a career first for freshman Kieran Sargeant as senior Joe DaLuz dribbled towards the near post and found Sargeant charging into the middle of the box. DaLuz connected to make it 3-0 in the 36th minute.
  • Georgetown wasn't done yet as passes in the middle of the field resulted in a long ball to freshman Ronan Dillow on the left side. He struck from distance and curled it in to make it 4-0 going into the break.
  • The Blue & Gray would continue to dominate the second half with a few quality looks.
  • Fordham never found the answer with each attempt handled by the Hoya backline and senior goalkeeer Giannis Nikopolidis as GU cruised to the 4-0 victory.
Of Note
  • Georgetown outshot Fordham 20-8 with nine on goal to the Rams' three.
  • The Hoyas were awarded four corner kicks to Fordham's three in the game.
  • Nikopolidis picked up the shutout in the net managing three saves on the afternoon.
  • Dillow has now scored a goal in each of his first two matches on the Hilltop.
  • Sophomore Marlon Tabora tallied a pair of assist on the afternoon.
  • Two of GU's goals were the first of the player's Georgetown career.
  • This was Georgetown's first ranked opponent of the season.
  • The Rams have conceded seven goals to BIG EAST opponents so far this season after falling to Providence 3-0 on Thursday.

  • The Hoyas will head out on the road to face the Syracuse Orange on Friday evening at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
