Box Score WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University field hockey team lost to No. 12 Liberty University on Friday as the Flames outscored the Hoyas 5-1 in the matchup. The Hoyas drop to 2-4-0 after Friday's game.
How it Happened
· Liberty was the first to score when Lizzie Hamlett zipped one past Georgetown's defense seven minutes into the quarter.
· The Flames scored consecutive goals early in the second quarter and headed into the half with a 3-0 lead. The Flames scored with five minutes left in the third quarter to make it 4-0.
· The Hoyas got in an offensive rhythm during the final period after earning penalty corners on offensive drives. Off one of those corners, fifth year midfielder
Ali Cronin scored as the ball bounced past Liberty's back line. Cronin's goal was assisted by seniors
Sydney Stephenson and
Georgina Eberle.
· Liberty scored one final goal with five minutes remaining in the game off a penalty corner to give the Flames a 5-1 lead.
Of Note
· Cronin found the cage for the second time this season off a shot from nearly the exact same spot that gave Georgetown an overtime win earlier in the season.
· Goalkeeper
Ciara Weets posted 16 saves on the day, giving her 40 saves on the season.
