Hoyas Beat Lock Haven in Overtime Thriller

Box Score WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University field hockey team won in overtime against the Lock Haven University on Sunday afternoon at Cooper Field. After a scoreless regulation period, the Hoyas delivered a clutch golden goal to end the game during the first overtime period.  With the 1-0 win over Lock Haven, Georgetown's record improves to 3-4 on the season.

From the Head Coach

"This was a big game for us today," head coach Christy Longacre said. "We spoke about this game setting the tone for the coming week and I thought we brought it today against a feisty Lock Haven team. We were getting shots and opportunities and their goalkeeper had an incredible, but we found a way to win and bounce back from some tough losses."

How it Happened
·         The game was scoreless through the first half. Georgetown outshot Lock Haven 3-1 in the first two quarters.
·     The Hoyas offense caught fire in the fourth quarter, putting 11 shots on the board during the final period. The Hoyas had shots that found the post, the side of the cage and the goalkeeper but could not put away the Bald Eagles in regulation.
·         Georgetown and Lock Haven headed into the overtime period tied 0-0, but the Hoyas were determined to score.
·        In a back-and-forth overtime period, the Hoyas and the Bald Eagles each had three penalty corner attempts and looked toward the goal often. Georgetown attempted seven shots in extra time and kept its foot on the gas.
·         Seven minutes into the extra period, fifth year Ali Cronin took a shot that ricocheted off Lock Haven's keeper, and the ball found its way out to graduate Emma Street. Street wound up and put a shot toward the left side of the goal off that rebound. Street scored the golden goal as Lock Haven's goalkeeper scrambled to reposition herself in front of the shot.

Of Note
·         The Hoyas dominated in penalty corners, attempting 14 corners to Lock Haven's four.
·         Georgetown had a season-high 23 shots during Sunday's match.
·         The Hoyas held the Bald Eagles to six shots in the game, and goalkeeper Ciara Weets saved the only attempt on target.

Up Next
·         The Hoyas are on the road again next weekend. Georgetown takes on Providence College for more BIG EAST play on Friday at 6 p.m., and then travel to Brown University to face off against the Bears on Sunday at 1 p.m. Links to live stats for the matches will be available on GUHoyas.com.
