Hoyas Fall to Tulsa in NCAA Second Round

TULSA, Okla. – The Georgetown University men's soccer team fell to the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane 1-0 in overtime on Sunday evening in the second round of the NCAA Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With the loss the Hoyas finish the season with a mark of 12-6-3 overall.

How it Happened
  • Georgetown had a look just seven minutes into the match as a scramble in front of the box allowed freshman Jacob Murrell a chance which went just over the crossbar.
  • Tulsa showed its speed in the 12th minute as Alex Meinhard got around the defense and shot but hit the post to keep it scoreless.
  • Georgetown goalkeeper Ryan Schewe was tested more times in the first half, but came up with the stops as the teams went into the break tied at zero.
  • Tulsa came out firing to begin the second and had a golden opportunity go just wide of the post off of a free kick outside of the box five minutes in.
  • The Hurricane would continue to push sending searching balls into the box that were hit wide or high.
  • Both teams would have looks late but the scoreless tie would send it into overtime.
  • It was Tulsa that unlocked the Hoya defense in the 93rd minute when a ball was sent in and Malik Henry-Scott managed to tap it to Luke Jeffus who fired on the ground to make it 1-0.
  • In the final 10 minutes of the match, Georgetown controlled possession and had a number of chances inside the six, but those chances would not find the back of the net as GU fell 1-0 after 120 minutes of action.
Of Note
  • Georgetown was outshot by Tulsa, 15-14, and GU managed three shots on goal to six by the Hurricane.
  • The Blue & Gray was awarded five corner kicks to Tulsa's three in the game.
  • Schewe took the loss in the net with five saves for the match.
