Georgetown Falls to UConn in BIG EAST Quarterfinal

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – The ninth-seeded Georgetown University women's basketball team fell 84-38 to the top-seeded UConn Huskies on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament presented by Jeep Brands at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. With the loss, the Hoyas conclude the season with a record of 10-19.

How it Happened
  • It was the Hoyas who struck first as freshman Ariel Jenkins sank a triple. That was followed up by a three from graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris as the Hoyas were fired up.
  • UConn (23-5) would answer with a 19-0 run as Georgetown trailed 22-6 at the conclusion of the first quarter.
  • The Huskies continued to score early in the second before a free throw from junior Graceann Bennett ended the run.
  • Georgetown would continue to struggle from the field as the buckets came few and far between. A hard-fought layup from senior Jillian Archer gave the Hoyas a field goal as the bigs battled down low but GU still trailed 43-9 at the half.
  • The Blue & Gray continued to battle in the third as graduate student Mary Clougherty began to get hot.
  • Clougherty would score 10 points in the period but Georgetown still trailed 66-25 at the end of the third.
  • As the lineup rotated through, the Hoyas looked for a comeback but it would never come, eventually falling 84-38.
Of Note
  • Clougherty led the way with 10 points as the lone Hoya in double figures.
  • Archer led the Hoyas in the paint with six rebounds and two points in one half of play after suffering an injury late in the first.
  • The Hoyas shot 27.5% (14-51) from the field and allowed 50.0% (32-64) shooting by the Huskies.
  • Georgetown was outrebounded by UConn 44-27, and the GU defense forced 13 Husky turnovers.
