WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's tennis team earned its second-consecutive win in dramatic fashion over East Carolina University (2-6) late Monday night. The Hoyas came back from behind to beat the Pirates 4-3 at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland.
How It Happened
- After losing all three doubles matches, the Hoyas (2-9, 0-2 BE) trailed 1-0 but looked to regroup in the singles competition.
- Two Hoyas dropped their singles matches but junior Agata Mikos and sophomore Avantika Willy earned wins to bring Georgetown back 3-2 in the dual match.
- Despite a slow start in her first set, freshman McHaley Ho turned it on, winning the second and third sets to clinch the victory and tie the match at three.
- Junior Carmen Aizpurua was the last player left in action and was locked in a battle with East Carolina's Sofia Cerezo Holgado. In a three-set match that took nearly two and a half hours to complete, Aizpurua came out victorious after patient play in the second and third sets.
