Georgetown Closes Out Its 2022 Season in Doubleheader with Butler

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown softball team played Butler in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon to close out its 2022 season. The Hoyas went 0-2 against the Bulldogs after Friday and Saturday's games were canceled due to rain. Georgetown finished the season 15-28 overall and 5-14 in the BIG EAST and Butler finished its regular season 31-15 overall, 16-6 in conference. Butler now advances to the BIG EAST Championship next week. 
 
How It Happened
  • In game one, Butler opened scoring in the second with a homer to center field to make it 1-0.
  • In the third with bases loaded, a BU player was hit by a pitch advancing runners to get another player across the plate (2-0).
  • The Bulldogs singled to center later in the inning bumping the score to 3-0.
  • Cameron Kondo knocked a ball to short in the third, taking the sac, and Lorena Vaquez-Inzunza crossed home (3-1).
  • The Hoyas pushed through the end of the seventh, but the score remained 3-1 giving Butler the win. 
 
  • In game two, Mae Forshey launched a ball out of center in the first, putting the Hoyas up 1-0.
  • The Bulldogs responded in the second with a double to left tying the score 1-1.
  • Later in the second, BU doubled its score with a single to center (2-1)
  • Butler added a run in the third from another single to center (3-1).
  • With a sac fly in the fourth, Butler's runner advanced to cross the plate. (4-1).
  • A well-positioned bunt later in the inning gave the Bulldogs a fifth run (5-1).
  • Butler slapped a double to right in the fifth for a runner to cross home making the score 6-1 and then BU's runner on third stole home to close the game 7-1.
