WASHINGTON – The Georgetown field hockey team defeated Queens University of Charlotte 9-1 on Sunday afternoon at Cooper Field. The Hoyas were led by Lindsey Devine and Skyler Lesslie, who each scored two goals during the game. With the win, the Hoyas advance to a season record of 2-2, while Queens University of Charlotte falls to 0-4.
How it Happened
- The Hoyas dominated in the first quarter, generating many chances and opening up the scoring with a goal off of a penalty corner by Devine late in the period.
- The Royals quickly answered with a goal by Caroline Powell, only to have it followed up with a goal from the Blue & Gray's Lesslie, bringing the score to 2-1 going into the second quarter.
- Sophie Towne scored a goal for the Hoyas early in the period, marking her second goal of the season and bringing the score to 3-1 going into halftime.
- Devine scored her second goal of the game for the Blue & Gray in the 33rd minute, extending the Hoyas' lead to three.
- In the third quarter, Emma Van Der Veen, Vivienne Trumpbour and Eliana Swell each scored a goal for the Blue & Gray, pushing the score to 7-1 heading into the final quarter.
- The Hoyas extended their advantage to eight with a goal by Sydney Yodh and a tally from Lesslie late in the quarter, marking her second goal of the game.
