Ransom Earns Preseason All-BIG EAST

WASHINGTON – Senior guard Kelsey Ransom earned BIG EAST Conference Preseason honors at the league's annual women's basketball media day held at Madison Square Garden in New York on Tuesday. Additionally, the Hoyas were picked to finish 10th in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, receiving 20 points.

The event was attended by Interim Head Coach Darnell Haney as well as student-athletes Graceann Bennett and Ransom. Players and coaches met with national media outlets to talk about the upcoming 2023-24 season. Promotional material was filmed during the event to be used on FOX and BIG EAST Digital Network broadcasts throughout the season.

  • Was named 2022-23 Honorable Mention All-BIG EAST.
  • Served as a team captain as a junior.
  • Ransom has earned four-career BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nods.
  • Last year, she started all 31 games for the Hoyas and led Georgetown in scoring, assists, rebounds and steals.
  • She averaged 12.6 points, 3.3 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game.
  • Ransom finished 16th in the BIG EAST in scoring and 12th in rebounds as well as 10th in assists a season ago.
  • She also ranked second in the league in steals and is the top returner in 2023-24.
  • The guard was among the top five players in the league in minutes played.
  • Ransom posted five double-doubles in 2022-23
  • In her career on the Hilltop, she 891 points to average 11.9 points per game.
  • Her 273 assists rank her 18th on GU's all-time list, and her 182 steals place her at 14th in Georgetown history.
BIG EAST Coaches' Poll - 10th
  • Georgetown was picked to finish 10th with 20 points in the preseason coaches' poll as voted on by the league's head coaches.
  • UConn collected 100 points and 10 first-place votes to sit on top. Creighton finished second with 90 points and the remaining first-place vote, while Marquette was slotted third with 79 points.
  • Villanova sat in fourth with 76 points, and Seton Hall was in the fifth spot with 58 points in the poll.
  • St. John's was picked sixth (52 points) followed by DePaul in seventh (49 points) and Butler in eighth (37 points).
  • Providence was selected at ninth with 32 points just ahead of the Hoyas, while Xavier rounded out the poll in 11th with 12 points.
