Georgetown Earns No. 4 Overall Seed in the NCAA Championship

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's soccer team (13-2-3) earned the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Championship on Monday afternoon. This marks GU's 12th tournament berth in the past 14 seasons and 14th overall.

About the Matchup
  • With the seed, the Hoyas have secured a first-round bye.
  • Georgetown will face the winner of the University of Pittsburgh and James Madison University on Sunday, November 19 in the second round at Shaw Field.
  • Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
How They Got Here
  • Georgetown advanced to the BIG EAST Championship Game on Sunday after a 2-0 victory over UConn in the semifinals.
  • The Hoyas and Musketeers played to a scoreless draw in the championship match, and Xavier won the BIG EAST Title on penalty kicks by a score of 5-4.
  • The Blue & Gray has been in the national rankings much of the year and is currently sitting at No. 3 in the country by the United Soccer Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll. The team is also ranked second in the RPI.
NCAA Tournament History
  • Last season, the Hoyas advanced to the second round of action following a 2-0 victory over Navy at Shaw Field.
  • In the second round, GU fell 1-0 in overtime at the University of Tulsa.
  • Georgetown's NCAA Tournament berth is the 12th under Head Coach Brian Wiese.
  • The Hoyas have been to the tournament on 13 previous occasions with nine trips to the Round of 16 (2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 1997) and five to the quarterfinals (2021, 2020, 2019, 2014, 2012).
  • The Hoyas won the national championship in 2019, downing Virginia in penalty kicks.
  • GU's last trip to the College Cup was in 2021 when the squad fell to the University of Washington 2-1 in the national semifinal.
  • In 2012, the squad was the national runner up, falling to Indiana 1-0 in the national championship game.
  • Prior to that season, the program had never moved beyond the second round of the tournament.
  • The Hoyas are 19-9-6 overall in the NCAA Tournament.
  • This is the 10th time the Hoyas have earned a seeding in the tournament.
  • It is the first No. 4 seed that Georgetown has earned.
