Georgetown Defeats Knights, 60-45

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team put together a commanding victory over the FDU Knights, 60-45, on Friday evening in a nonconference matchup at McDonough Arena. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 3-1 on the season and the Knights fall to 0-4 for the year.

Interim Head Coach Darnell Haney
  • "Tonight was a great team win, everybody came out and did their job and we hit our goals for the game which is what we want to do every night. Our group is starting to realize what Georgetown basketball is. We have to continue to get better, we have to continue to grow, we have to continue to play as a unit and we'll be just fine."
How it Happened
  • The first quarter belonged to the Knights as FDU opened with a triple and managed to build the lead to five midway through the stanza on a trio of free throws.
  • FDU would go back up by six with 1:27 to go, but a 3-pointer by Yasmin Ott and a fastbreak layup from Kelsey Ransom made it 13-12 in favor of the Knights after 10 minutes of action.
  • Georgetown was unstoppable in the second as graduate student Alex Cowan opened the quarter with a triple and a layup sparking a 12-0 second-period run including eight points from Cowan.
  • It would prove to be a 17-0 run spanning two quarters as the Blue & Gray held the commanding 24-13 lead.
  • FDU would answer with a 3-pointer, but a pair of buckets from senior Jada Claude held GU's significant advantage.
  • At the half, Georgetown led 30-21 following a late jumper from graduate student Mya Bembry.
  • The Knights began the second half with a free throw, but sophomore Victoria Rivera answered back with a jumper to spark a 7-0 run.
  • Georgetown would continue to build the lead and never allowed FDU back in the contest holding the 16-point advantage at the end of the third.
  • The Knights looked for a comeback, but it never came as the Blue & Gray cruised to the 60-45 victory.

  • Ransom led the way with 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals for another all-around performance.
  • The Hoyas boasted balanced scoring with nine players registering a point in the victory.
  • Graduate student Graceann Bennett and junior Brianna Scott were both second with nine points, while Cowan added eight.
