WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Head Men's Soccer Coach
Brian Wiese and his staff of

Ryan Nelsen and
Brian Bouhl were named the 2023 United Soccer Coaches East Region Coaching Staff of the Year on Friday. The honor comes after Wiese and company had another outstanding season in his 18-year career on the Hilltop.
Georgetown went 13-3-3 this past season. Along the way, the Hoyas claimed the 2023 BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and earned the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Championship. GU spent much of the season in the national rankings sitting as high as No. 3 at one point in the year.
Individually, seven Hoyas earned BIG EAST postseason awards. Senior captain
Kenny Nielsen was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, and was unanimously selected to the first team. Senior
Ryan Schewe was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, while classmate
Marlon Tabora was named Co-Midfielder of the Year. Joining Nielsen on the First Team All-BIG EAST are Schewe, junior
Kieran Sargeant and sophomore
Jacob Murrell. Senior
Kyle Linhares and sophomore
Zach Zengue were both named Third Team All-BIG EAST. Georgetown was also awarded BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.
Earlier in the season, the win over UNCW marked the 221st win for Wiese, making him the winningest coach in program history with a record of 224-94-44 over his 18 seasons on the Hilltop. He surpassed Keith Tabatznik who had a record of 220-187-23 (.583) in 22 seasons at Georgetown.
This is the fifth time in program history that the Hoyas have earned this regional distinction. It is Wiese's fourth after winning the same award in 2010, 2018 and 2021.
Each of the 52 (26 men's and 26 women's) coaching staffs receiving Region Staff of the Year honors through a vote of their peers, will be recognized at the College Coaches Awards Ceremony at the United Soccer Coaches Convention on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in Anaheim, Calif.
In addition, the Region Staff of the Year recipients will be placed on the ballot for National Staff of the Year consideration within their respective NCAA division. National Staff of the Year voting opens December 6, 2023.
