WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball played its first two games of the 2023 season at the River City Leadoff Tournament today in Jacksonville, Florida. The Hoyas lost to Furman University 3-2 this morning followed by a loss against co-host Jacksonville University (6-2) after a weather delay that postponed the game by two hours and 16 minutes.
How It Happened
Vs. the Paladins
- Furman's center fielder Ashlee Lykins scored the first run of the game when Riley Ludlam singled to left field in the bottom of the first.
- Graduate student Mae Forshey evened the score in the third inning after hitting a fly out to the Paladins' shortstop which allowed Morgan Zamora to advance and Brittany Lew to cross the plate.
- In the fourth, Kiley Perry launched a ball out of the park to bump the score to 2-1.
- Furman's third baseman Chloe Fabio slipped a ball to the outfield. Georgetown got the out at second on Ainsley Yoshizumi, but Hana Hashioka made it across home (3-1).
- Zamora tried to cut the deficit in the seventh inning with a ball to left field which brought freshman Claire Turner her first run as a Hoya, but it was not enough to get the win.
Vs. the Dolphins
- Samantha Miller brought in the first run against Jacksonville in the second inning from a hit by pitch on Brittany Lew (1-0)
- Later in the inning, Cameron Kondo was also hit by a pitch and brought Kiaris Alvarado Rojas home to make it 2-0.
- JU brought in four runs in the fourth inning off of two singles and a double (4-2).
- Adding to the score, the Dolphins scored from two doubles down the middle of the field to make it 6-2.
- Due to weather, the game was postponed in the fifth inning for over two hours and resumed play to close the score out at 6-2.

Georgetown plays Furman again tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. followed by the University of North Florida at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be played at UNF.
