WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball played its final game of the UNCW Tournament this afternoon against tournament host UNC Wilmington. The game was a close battle between the Hoyas and the Seahawks, but UNCW took the win 5-3. Georgetown is now 2-10 on the season.
How It Happened
- The Seahawks put the first run on the board after hitting a single, a fielder's choice and an error by Georgetown to bump UNCW to 1-0.
- UNCW doubled its lead by stealing home in the bottom of the first (2-0).
- The Seahawks tacked on a third run in the second inning when Vitola tripled down the right field line and Stockton scored.
- The Hoyas found some momentum in the fourth inning with hits from Mae Forshey and Kayla Dunn. Claire Turner stepped in to pinch run for Forshey and advanced to second base on a wild pitch.
- UNCW capitalized on two errors by Georgetown and a walk in the bottom of the fourth to increase the lead to 5-0.
- In the sixth, Georgetown loaded the bases from a double by Sam Miller which Forshey crossed home on to cut the Seahawks' lead to 5-1.
- Naya Campos hit a sacrifice fly that Dunn scored on to make it 5-2 and Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza followed through sliping a ball down the middle of the park advancing Miller over the plate (5-3).
- The Hoyas put in work in the seventh to try and tie the score, but were unable to get a hit and the game ended 5-3.
