WASHINGTON – The Georgetown softball team beat Hampton University 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon in a tight-scoring game. The Hoyas are now 5-16 overall, 1-2 in BIG EAST play while Hampton falls to 9-10 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
How It Happened
- The Hoyas and Pirates went scoreless through the first three innings with neither side getting a good look at crossing home plate.
- Hampton added the first runs of the game in the fourth inning from a SAC fly to left field and a single to left field to make it 2-0.
- A missed attempt at getting a runner out at second by the Pirates led to the Hoyas with runners on first and second base in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- Hampton tried to tag Mae Forshey out at third, but struck her with the ball instead, creating bases loaded for the Blue & Gray. Forshey crossed home to make 2-1 on the next play.
- Sophia Scarengella pinch hit in the fourth inning, hitting a double to bring Zamora and pinch runner Kiaris Alvarado Rojas home to bump the Hoya lead to 3-2.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Kayla Dunn hit a ball out to right field and Naya Campos rounded third to get the final run of the game (4-2).
Hoya Hightlight
- Brooke Plonka pitched the first five innings of the game before Julia Parker stepped in to relieve. Plonka struck out seven batters while Parker struck out four and collectively the duo gave up only seven hits.
