Hoyas Fall to Butler in Rubber Match

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team fell to Butler 3-1 Sunday afternoon in the final contest in its three-game BIG EAST Conference series with the Bulldogs in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Hoyas are now 16-30 overall and 9-12 in BIG EAST play, while Butler advances to 17-30 overall and 11-7 in conference play.

How it Happened
  • Three quick outs for the Hoyas and a run by the Bulldogs put the score at 1-0 at the end of the first inning.
  • The Hoyas answered in the top of the third with a run by Kacy Lyman off a ground ball to third by Cameron Kondo, tying the game, 1-1.
  • The score would stand through a quick fourth inning and the top of the fifth, with Claire Turner doubling out to second but getting left on base by the Hoyas.
  • The game then went into a weather delay for an hour and 15 minutes.
  • Butler hit a pair of back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth that would leave the Hoyas trailing by two going into the seventh inning.
  • With Kondo on first and two outs, weather forced the game to be called midway through the top of the seventh, handing the victory to the Bulldogs, 3-1.
Of Note
  • Kondo, Lyman, Turner and Gianna Sciullo all tallied base hits in the contest.
  • Lyman scored her 13th run of the season.
  • Julia Parker took the loss from the circle, tallying three strikeouts in six innings of work.
